For us the most exciting aspect of this new range of inverters is the flexibility they offer.  With the PowerRouter you are able to install a grid connect system now, but can upgrade to a battery back up system easily, neatly and with minimum change to the existing equipment.  What this means is that for all those people who would like a battery back-up system but just can't afford it yet they can now start with a grid connect system and add the batteries later when they can afford them, without having to change their grid connect system.

The most innovative and unique feature of this inverter is in the grid connect only model, where traditionally you would lose access to your solar power in the event of a power outage the PowerRouter will continue to feed any loads in the house as long as there is sufficient solar input available.  This means that during daytime outages (which are becoming ore common during the summer months when the mains grid is overloaded) your essential items such as fridge and freezer can still work, if you have a big enough solar input you could still maintain use of a cooling system.  And all this is without the expense of a battery bank - of course if there is no sun, you will have no power.
